Mouton appointed dean
APHA member Charles Mouton, MD, MS, in May was appointed dean of the School of Medicine and senior vice president for health affairs at Meharry Medical College in Tennessee. Previously, Mouton was professor and chair of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. His new appointment began July 1.
Eggleston named executive director
APHA member Molly Eggleston, MPH, CHES, CPH, in August assumed the position of executive director of the National Board of Public Health Examiners. Previously, she served as a consultant to the board. She is also part-time executive director for the Foundation to Advance Public Health through Certification.
Bernhardt named chair of health education and behavior
APHA member Jay Bernhardt, PhD, MPH, in June was named chair of the Department of Health Education and Behavior at the University of Florida College of Health and Human Performance. In addition to chairing the department, Bernhardt will establish and direct the Center for Digital Health and Wellness which will conduct domestic and global research with collaborators from across the University of Florida.
Sweeny appointed to review panel
Anne Sweeny, PhD, in June was appointed to a review panel to advise the Environmental Protection Agency on health risks from dioxin and related compounds. Currently, Sweeny serves on a review panel advising EPA on national air quality standards for carbon monoxide.
Wolfe named scholarship recipient
Allen Wolfe in June was named the 2010 recipient of the Medical Transport Leadership Institute Scholarship by MedEvac Foundation International for his contributions and dedication to the critical-care transport community. The scholarship enhances leadership and management of medical transportation through formal education programs.
Rathouz named chair of biostatistics
Paul Rathouz, PhD, in June was named chair of biostatistics and informatics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Rathouz was previously the associate professor of biostatistics in the Department of Health Studies at the University of Chicago. His new appointment will take effect in the fall.
Mills named executive vice president
Penny Mills in June was selected as the new executive vice president of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Mills came from Avalere Health where she served as vice president since 2007. The American Society of Addiction Medicine is a professional society of physicians involved in addiction prevention, treatment, research, education and public policy.
Richard named ambassador
Heather Richard in May was selected as a Georgia Hospital Association “GREAT” ambassador, which stands for Giving Recognition for Excellence, Advocacy and Teamwork. Richard is the manager of clinical operations in the Cardiac Step-Down Unit at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. The ambassador program provides hospital employees the opportunity to share their stories about how they chose a health care profession, why they like their jobs and what they like about working for the hospital.
