Newsmakers ========== * Tiggi Jalloh ## Holtgrave named dean of University at Albany School of Public Health APHA member David Holtgrave, PhD, in March became dean of the University at Albany School of Public Health. Holtgrave was formerly chair of the Department of Health Behavior and Society at Johns Hopkins University and led the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention–Intervention Research and Support. ## Johnson named director of University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Population Health Institute APHA member Sherri Johnson, PhD, in January became the director of the Population Health Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Johnson was the state health officer and administrator at the Wisconsin Division of Public Health from 2005 to 2008. ## McClain promoted to director for Northeast Colorado Health Department Trish McClain, RN, in December was promoted to public health director for the Northeast Colorado Health Department. McClain, who was serving as the interim director, has also served as the nursing director and deputy director for the department. ## McCarthy appointed to faculty at Harvard School of Public Health Gina McCarthy, MS, in January was appointed professor of the Practice of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and director of the Center for Health and the Global Environment. She previously served as the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. ## Hale named director of Cherokee County Public Health Allison Hale in January was appointed the director of the Cherokee County Department of Health in Jacksonville, Texas. Hale was formerly director of Helping Others Pursue Enrichment. ## Topol named executive vice president of Scripps Research Institute Eric Topol, MD, in December became the executive vice president at the Scripps Research Institute. Topol is the founder and director of the Scripps Translational Science Institute. ## Cipriani promoted to assistant dean of Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine Kauline Cipriani, PhD, in February became the assistant dean for diversity and inclusion at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. Nelson served as co-director of Purdue’s Center of Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion in Veterinary Medicine and assistant professor in the Comparative Pathobiology and Food science departments at Purdue. ## Nelson named president of Medical Foundation of North Carolina Leslie Nelson in January became president of the Medical Foundation of North Carolina and associate dean for development at University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Nelson recently served as senior executive of Office of External Affairs at UNC’s Children’s. ## Yip elected International Health Economics Association president Winnie Yip, PhD, in December was elected president of the International Health Economics Association. She is the director of Harvard Chan School of Public Health’s China Health Partnership, where her research focused on health care delivery for the poor. ## Anthony named editor in chief of Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene T. Renee Anthony, PhD, in January became editor in chief of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene. Anthony is an associate professor in the department of occupational and environmental health at the University of Iowa. ## APHA hires new staff members Several new professionals have joined APHA’s staff in recent months. Tim Bloomquist, manager of facility and office services, joined in February; Marwa Fadlalla, senior manager of government relations, joined in October; and Gabriella Witte, senior manager of government relations, joined in November. *Received a promotion or award?
