## Tremmel Freeman named NACCHO CEO

APHA member Lori Tremmel Freeman, MBA, in April was named CEO of the National Association of County and City Health Officials. Freeman previously served as CEO of the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs.

## Bowman named dean at University of Michigan

APHA member F. Dubois Bowman, PhD, MS, in October was slated to become dean of the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Bowman was previously the chair and Cynthia and Robert Citrone-Roslyn and Leslie Goldstein professor of biostatistics at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.

## Grande named executive director

APHA member Donna Grande, MGA, in May became executive director of the American College of Preventive Medicine. Grande previously served as vice president of the American Nurses Association.

## 2018 Bloomberg fellows named

The Bloomberg America Health Initiative in May announced its 2018 MPH and DrPH Bloomberg fellows. The MPH fellows include APHA members Ivana Castellanos, Micaela Root and Richard Sadler, PhD. The DrPH fellows include APHA members Veronica Helms, MPH; Ashley Hickson, MPH; and Ransom Wyse, MPH.

## Stewart named president

Altha Stewart, MD, in May became the president of the American Psychiatric Association. Stewart is an associate professor of psychiatry and director of the Center for Health in Justice Involved Youth at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Stewart is the first African-American to lead the organization.

## Godwin named dean at University of Washington

Hilary Godwin, PhD, in July became the dean of the University of Washington School of Public Health. Godwin previously served as a professor and associate dean at the University of California-Los Angeles Fielding School of Public Health.

## Brown named CEO

Tracey Brown, MBA, in June became CEO of the American Diabetes Association. Brown previously served as senior vice president of operations and chief experience officer at Sam’s Club.

## Dennison Himmelfarb named Johns Hopkins chair

Cheryl Dennison Himmelfarb, PhD, MS, RN, ANP, in April became the inaugural Sarah E. Allison professor for research and self-care at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Himmelfarb serves as the associate dean for research leading the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing’s Office for Science and Innovation and director of the Helene Fuld Leadership Program for the Advancement of Patient Safety and Quality.

## Osterholm named U.S. science envoy

Michael Osterholm, PhD, MPH, MS, in June became a science envoy for the U.S. Department of State. Osterholm is a regents professor and the McKnight presidential endowed chair in public health in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences and director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.

## Campbell honored for program

Jacquelyn Campbell, PhD, MSN, RN, FAAN, in July was named an American Academy of Nursing edge runner for her Danger Assessment: An Instrument to Help Abused Women Assess Their Risk of Homicide program. Campbell is a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

## Valenzuela named managing principal

Jennifer Valenzuela, MPH, MSW, in August became managing principal of people and equity at Health Leads. Valenzuela previously served as the national director of program at the organization.

## Maricopa County Environmental Services Department honored

The Maricopa County, Arizona, Environmental Services Department in June was honored with the Samuel J. Crumbine Consumer Protection Award for Excellence in Food Protection at the Local Level. The department was honored for providing outstanding local protection against foodborne illness.
