Newsmakers: August 2020 ======================= * Sophie Wazlowski ## Patterson, Forrest named co-executive directors Katrina Forrest, JD, and APHA member Catherine Patterson, MPP, were appointed co-executive directors of CityHealth, an initiative led by the de Beaumont Foundation and Kaiser Permanente, in June. Forrest was formerly the deputy chief of staff and legislative director for Washington, D.C., Councilmember David Grosso. Patterson previously worked as the managing director of Urban Health and Policy at the Foundation. ## Liu appointed to board APHA member Hongjie Liu, PhD, MS, in June was appointed to the Montgomery County, Maryland, COVID-19 Public Health Advisory Board. Liu is chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and a professor of epidemiology at the University of Maryland. ## Anderson named dean Cheryl Anderson, PhD, MPH, MS, in June was named the founding dean of the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health at the University of California-San Diego. Anderson previously served as professor and interim chair in the Department of Family and Public Health, as well as director of the university’s Center of Excellence in Health Promotion and Equity. ## New members on mental health board Mental Health America in June appointed four new members to its volunteer board. They are Kana Enomoto, MA, a senior expert at McKinsey and Company; Gustavo Loera, EdD, MA, an educational psychologist; Courtney Lang, JD, an independent health policy and public affairs consultant; and Pierluigi Mancini, PhD, project director for the National Hispanic and Latino Addiction Technology Transfer Center. ## AMA announces board The American Medical Association in June announced its Board of Trustees for 2020-2021. Those elected to serve on the board include Grayson Armstrong, MD, MPH; Jesse Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH; Ilse Levin, DO, MPH, TM; Harris Pastides, PhD, MPH; Michael Suk, MD, JD, MPH; and Willie Underwood, MD, MSc, MPH. ## Wehby named chair George Wehby, PhD, MPH, in June was named John W. Colloton chair in health management and policy for the University of Iowa College of Public Health. The appointment began July 1. At the University of Iowa, Wehby has been a professor and the director of the doctoral and master’s programs in the Department of Health Management and Policy. ## Oberhelman named associate dean Richard Oberhelman, MD, was named associate dean for global health at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Oberhelman previously served as chair of the university’s Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences. ## Nace appointed to commission David Nace, MD, MPH, CMD, in June was appointed to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service’s new Commission for Safety and Quality in Nursing Homes. Nace will represent the Society for Post-Acute and Long-term Care Medicine on the commission, which conducts assessment of nursing homes’ responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
