## Homelessness

Oxford University Press in November published “Housing First: Ending Homelessness, Transforming Systems and Changing Lives.” Authored by Benjamin Henwood, PhD; APHA member Deborah Padgett, MPH; and Sam Tsemberis, PhD, the book centers on the lessons learned from the Housing First program in New York City and how its strategies resulted in reduced drug dependence and better housing stability. ## Substance use

Columbia University Press in May published “The Thirteenth Step: Addiction in the Age of Brain Science.” Authored by Markus Heilig, MD, PhD, the book looks at case studies of people who suffer from substance use issues and highlights science-based treatments that may help combat addiction. ## Behavioral health

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in September updated its Suicide Safe mobile app. The app is geared for mental health professionals who need guidance in addressing suicide risk in their patients. ## School health

The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault in September released its “Resource Guide to Prevent and Improve the Response to Sexual Violence at Colleges and Universities.” The guide contains links to public awareness campaigns, sexual misconduct policies, training and more for university faculty, staff and students to help prevent and spread awareness about campus sex assault. ## Accreditation

The Public Health Accreditation Board in September released the video “Reaping the Benefits of Accreditation Across the Nation.” The video takes a look at how three health departments — California Department of Public Health, Chicago Department of Public Health and Three Rivers District Health Department in Owenton, Kentucky — have benefited from accreditation. ## Child health

## Professional development

The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare in September released an updated version of its Web training tutorial focused on parents in substance use treatment programs who are going through child welfare and dependency court.
