APHA webinar series spotlights lead risks
An ongoing APHA webinar series is highlighting the links between lead, water and health risks. Launched March 16, the series was created in the wake of the crisis in Flint, Michigan, in which residents were exposed to lead in their drinking water.
The first episode in the series, which is archived on the APHA website and can be watched now, served as a primer on lead, water and health and was co-sponsored by the American Water Works Association.
The next episode, to be broadcast April 5, will examine public health legal authority and will feature Mona Hanna-Attisha, MD, MPH. She is co-author of a study published in the February issue of APHA’s American Journal of Public Health that documented elevated blood lead levels in Flint children after the water source change. Another episode, to be aired the week of April 25, will look at lead, water and housing and discuss ways in which health workers can help kids exposed to lead.
