## Sharps named endowed chair at Baltimore nursing school

APHA member Phyllis Sharps, PhD, RN, FAAN, was named the Elsie M. Lawler Endowed Chair of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore. Sharps is a professor at the nursing school and the associate dean for community programs and initiatives.

## Bal receives outstanding public servant award

Dileep Bal, MD, MPH, MS, in February received the Outstanding Career Public Servant at the Local Level award during the American Medical Association’s 2016 Dr. Nathan Davis Awards for Outstanding Government Service ceremony in Washington, D.C. Bal is the district health officer for Kauai, Hawaii, for the Hawaii State Department of Health.

## Currier receives outstanding public servant award

Mary Currier, MD, MPH, in February received the Outstanding Career Public Servant at the Local Level award during the American Medical Association’s 2016 Dr. Nathan Davis Awards for Outstanding Government Service ceremony in Washington, D.C. Currier is the state health officer for the Mississippi State Department of Health.

## Lipkin receives international technology award

Ian Lipkin, MD, in January received the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award in Beijing, China. Lipkin is director of the Center for Infection and Immunity and a professor at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

## Patel wins community outreach pharmacy award

Pratik Patel, PharmD, in February received the American Pharmacists Association’s 2016 Immunization Champions Award in the community outreach category. Patel received the award for his work in getting underserved Detroit communities vaccinated against the flu.

## Schwartz named senior vice president for business practice

Lisa Schwartz, PhD, in January was named senior vice president for business practice at Mathematica Policy Research. Schwartz previously served as vice president for business practice at Mathematica as well as vice president and director of survey research.

## Tula named vice president of programs for AIDS organization

Monique Tula in February was named vice president of programs of AIDS United. Tula was previously senior program manager for AIDS United Access to Care and was director of capacity building for AIDS United’s Getting to Zero program, which was funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

## Van Lew wins pharmacist association national champion award

Holly Van Lew, PharmD, in February received a 2016 Immunization Champions Award in the individual practitioner category from the American Pharmacists Association. Van Lew was recognized for her leadership in giving out 44,000 vaccinations in 2015 as director of the Pharmacy Immunization Clinic at the Indian Health Service Medical Center in Phoenix.

## Williams named new dean of Harvard public health school

Michelle Williams, ScD, SM, in July will become the new dean of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Williams is the chair of the Chan School of Public Health’s Epidemiology Department and the Stephen B. Kay Family Professor of Public Health.
