Get ready to engage, collaborate and grow: Registration for APHA’s 2023 Annual Meeting and Expo opens June 5.
To be held in Atlanta from Sunday, Nov. 12, through Wednesday, Nov. 15, APHA 2023 will bring together researchers, public health advocates, scientists, community health workers, students, supporters and more. More than 12,000 people are expected for the event, which will be based at the Georgia World Congress Center.
“With more than 1,000 presentations, APHA 2023 will have something for everyone in the field,” Jolene McNeil, CMP, DES, CEM, APHA’s director of event operations, told The Nation’s Health. “Mark your calendar for four days of insightful scientific presentations, career activities and face-to-face networking.”
This year’s meeting theme is “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Overcoming Social and Ethical Challenges,” but sessions and events will cover the full breadth of public health topics, from nationwide disease outbreaks to local community programs.
Both registration and housing for the meeting open this month. Participants who sign up by the early registration deadline can save up to $175. Discounted rates are available for students, early-career professionals and other APHA members.
At registration, participants can opt to make a donation to APHA’s Help Us Help Them campaign, which helps attendees support a public health nonprofit organization in Atlanta.
APHA 2023 will officially kick off at 11 a.m. EDT on Nov. 12. The event will include panel and poster scientific sessions, roundtables, general sessions, business meetings, social hours and myriad networking opportunities.
The always-popular public health expo —featuring schools of public health, publishers, health agencies, nonprofit organizations and more — is back. The expo will be home to the meeting’s physical activity center, poster sessions, hundreds of exhibits and more. APHA will once again be offering free professional headshots at the expo, as well as book signings with public health authors.
APHA’s Annual Meeting Social Media Lab will offer free one-on-one consultations with advice on using social media tools as well as short how-to presentations. Other must-visit attractions include APHA Public Health CareerMart, where job seekers can connect with employers, and the Public Health Film Festival.
Continuing education opportunities will abound at APHA 2023, including in-depth courses offered Nov. 11-12 at the meeting’s Learning Institutes. The institutes, which help members of the public health workforce build knowledge and practical skills, will address a cross-section of topics.
