Formulas for improving public health do not amount to much unless action is also part of the equation. APHA's National Public Health Week, to be observed April 6-12, encourages supporters to turn aspirations into reality through its theme of “Ready. Set. Action!”
“National Public Health Week is a time to both celebrate past successes and encourage action to keep that momentum going,” Michelle Loosli, MS, APHA's director of Affiliate affairs, told The Nation's Health. “When public health and communities work together, everyone benefits.”
NPHW 2026 will bring together public health workers, students, health supporters, organizations and more for a weeklong celebration of public health. Last year, hundreds of NPHW events took place across the country.
Planners can get inspiration for their events via the “tips and tools” page on the NPHW website and download logos, sample social media posts and a sample proclamation they can share with local leaders.
NPHW 2026 participants will also be able to gain inspiration from other public health supporters by sharing details about their events on the NPHW online calendar.
APHA will host its own NPHW events as well as the popular Keep It Moving Challenge, which runs Jan. 1 to April 12, the last day of NPHW. The challenge encourages people to join a team and track their activity through a free app. Participants can form their own teams — such as with family, friends, workplaces or schools — or join an existing one.

Last year, over 3,100 people took part in the challenge, logging nearly 1.3 billion steps. Participants can sign up for the challenge online now.
“APHA's Keep It Moving Challenge isn't just about getting a little more active; it's about building a community of health enthusiasts and embracing friendly competition,” Loosli said. “Whether you're a returning participant or haven't experienced this exciting challenge before, now is the perfect time to jump in.”
