Frieden, MD, MPH, took the helm of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in June with a goal to increase the strength and effectiveness of the nation’s top public health agency. An infectious disease expert, Frieden has led numerous initiatives targeting wellness, prevention and preparedness. A former director of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Frieden has worked at the forefront of the fights against obesity, cancer, heart disease, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.
