The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control in September released “Color Me Safe.” The free coloring book, online at www.cdc.gov/features/colormesafe, tells the rhyming story of the “Safe Family” and describes how a family stays safe at home, on the road and at play.
Bullying
The American Psychiatric Association in September released “Preventing Bullying and School Violence.” Authored by Stuart Twemlow, MD, and Frank Sacco, PhD, the book contends that inadequate attention has been given to the role of mental health professionals in preventing bullying and school violence. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in September launched a new resource to help patients be prepared before, during and after their medical appointments. The interactive question-builder tool, online at www.ahrq.gov/consumer/beinvolved.htm, enables patients to create, prioritize and print a personalized list of questions based on their own health conditions.
Breastfeeding
The American Academy of Pediatrics in August released the second edition of “The New Mother’s Guide to Breastfeeding.” Revised and updated, the resource includes new research on ways breastfeeding can help prevent childhood allergies and obesity. Community nursing
Sigma Theta Tau International, a nursing honor society, in September released “Healthy Places, Healthy People: A Handbook for Culturally Informed Community Nursing Practice, Second Edition.” Based on the federal government’s Healthy People 2020 guidelines and objectives, the book provides realistic strategies and practical advice on effectively mobilizing community action for public health.
