Heart disorders

Omnigraphics in November published “Cardiovascular Disorder Sourcebook, Fifth Edition.” The book includes information on the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the heart and blood vessels. For more information, visit www.omnigraphics.com.

Vaccinations

The Institute of Medicine in September released the Strategic Multi-Attribute Ranking Tool for Vaccines 1.0. The software allows users involved in vaccine development and delivery to prioritize the vaccines most urgently needed in the U.S. and abroad. Users will be able to evaluate vaccine candidates based on vulnerable populations. The software, a video overview and a corresponding report, “Ranking Vaccines: A Prioritization Software Tool,” is available at www.nap.edu/smartvaccines.

Cyberbullying

The film “Submit the Documentary” in October became available online. The goal of the film, which focuses on cyberbullying and sexting, is to connect parents, educators, professionals and children together to discuss the effects of social media. Substance abuse

The National Institute on Drug Abuse in October updated its teen website for better viewing on smartphones and tablets. The institute’s site for parents and educators has also been improved to make it easier for users to find free, scientifically based prevention and education resources, such as Family Checkup, a tool to help parents talk to their children about drugs. Disaster planning

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in October released its second Web-based security training module, “Cyberspace: Your Medical Practice.” The latest module, which is designed for health care providers and staff, focuses on disaster planning, data backup, recovery and other elements of contingency planning. Lupus resource

Lupus Science & Medicine in October debuted as the first open-access journal dedicated to lupus. Published by the British Medical Journal and the Lupus Foundation of America, the online journal will officially launch early this year and will cover new developments in the understanding and treatment of the autoimmune disease. Health promotion

The American Journal of Health Promotion in October released three new workbooks to help health workers design, finance and support their health promotion programs. The workbooks are “How to Design and Finance Workplace Health Promotion Programs,” the “Employer’s Business Case for Workplace Health Promotion” and “A Conceptual Framework to Guide the Development of Effective Health Promotion Programs: The Awareness Motivation, Skills and Opportunity Framework and the Face of Wellness Model.” For more information, visit www.healthpromotionjournal.com.
