Gun violence

The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence in July launched a new site to help users examine gun violence in the U.S. from a public health perspective. The website complies data and research on gun violence, as well as evidence-based recommendations for addressing it. For more information, visit www.EFSGV.org.

Mental health

The University of North Carolina School of Medicine and UNC Health launched a new app to provide mental health resources to front-line health care workers and first responders in July. The free Heroes Health app gives users access to weekly self-assessments and generates summary reports to help workers evaluate and care for their mental health. Maternal health

The University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health developed an online resource guide in August with information on maternal and child health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The guide provides users with information on care for pregnant and postpartum women and infants during the pandemic. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/2DcQlUq.

LGBTQ health

Springer Publishing in July released the first issue of Annals of LGBTQ Public and Population Health, a new quarterly journal. Edited by Dean Halkitis, MS, MPH, PhD, the journal focuses on the health of sexual and gender minority populations. It aims to bring together scholarship from multiple disciplines to enhance the health and well-being of LGBTQ individuals. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/32JppUY.

Contact tracing

The Public Health Foundation in August launched a free COVID-19 contact tracing curriculum. The curriculum can be tailored to the needs of different health departments, allowing users to combine training techniques from partners such as Johns Hopkins University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among others. Public health news

The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in July released the second season of its Public Health on Call podcast. In each episode, experts discuss recent public health news and its implications for the future. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/2QC8I8f.

COVID-19

The University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health in August released basic fact COVID-19 sheets that can be used by local health departments. The fact sheets, which are available in 15 languages, provide information on symptoms and protective measures. The bottom portion of the fact sheets is blank, allowing health departments to fill the space with their own contact information. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/2YO3g6S.
