Fahrenwald named dean of nursing at Texas A&M
APHA member Nancy Fahrenwald, PhD, RN, PHNA-BC, FAAN, in January was named dean and professor of the Texas A&M University College of Nursing. She will assume her role in June. Fahrenwald is the dean and professor at South Dakota State University College of Nursing, where she has served on the faculty since 2013.
Dionne named Klickitat County public health director
APHA member Carla Dionne, MPH, MBA, in January was named public health director for Klickitat County, Washington. Dionne has served as the executive director of the National Uterine Fibroids Foundation and as an analyst for Kaiser Permanente.
Webster named first American health professor of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
APHA member Daniel Webster, ScD, MPH, in January was named the first professor of American health in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. A gun violence expert and director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research, Webster also serves on the advisory board for Safe Streets, a public health program aimed to prevent gun violence among youth.
Loveluck becomes Washtenaw County’s first deputy health officer
APHA member Jimena Loveluck, MSW, in January became the first deputy health officer in Washtenaw County, Michigan. For 15 years, she served as the CEO of the HIV/AIDS Resource Center.
Wellenius appointed director of Center for the Environment Health and Technology
APHA member Gregory Wellenius, ScD, MSc, in February became the director of the Center for Environmental Health and Technology in the School of Public Health at Brown University. Wellenius is an associate professor of epidemiology at Brown.
Taylor named NYU College of Nursing Vernice D. Ferguson professor
Jacquelyn Taylor, PhD, PNP-BC, RN, FAHA, FAAN, in January was named the inaugural Vernice D. Ferguson professor in health equity at the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Taylor was formerly the president of the American Academy of Nursing and the chief nurse executive for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Gopikumar receives 2018 Penn Nursing Renfield Foundation Award
Vandana Gopikumar, PhD, in March received the 2018 Penn Nursing Renfield Foundation Award for Global Women’s Health. Gopikumar is the co-founder of the Banyan and the Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health. Her work has helped women in India with mental health problems.
Kramer named president of National Kidney Foundation
Holly Kramer, MD, MPH, in January was named president of the National Kidney Foundation. Kramer is a kidney specialist and kidney disease researcher at Loyola University Chicago and Loyola Medicine. She will assume her position in October.
Berridge named associate director of National Toxicology Program
Brian Berridge, DVM, PhD, in January was named the associate director of the National Toxicology Program. He was previously at GlaxoSmithKline, where he directed worldwide animal research strategy.
Patterson becomes senior vice president at American Academy of Pediatrics
Janna Patterson, MD, MPH, FAAP, in January was named senior vice president for global child health and life support initiatives at the American Academy of Pediatrics. Patterson was formerly the senior program officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s maternal, newborn and child health team.
Dong appointed director of Rutgers’ Institute of Health
XinQi Dong, MD, MPH, in April became the director of Rutgers University’s Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. Dong has severed on the board of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a senior advisor.
