Morris named president
Patricia Morris, PhD, was named president of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology in July. Morris is a molecular endocrinologist and pharmacologist and guest investigator at Rockefeller University and senior scientist at Chromocell. Her term began July 1.
Desai selected as featured fellow
Miraj Desai, PhD, was selected as the featured fellow of American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program in May. Desai is an instructor within the Department of Psychiatry of Yale University School of Medicine.
Philips wins award
James Philips, PhD, in May received the Robert J. Lapham Award of the Population Association of America for improving health systems in lowincome countries. Philips serves as professor emeritus in the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health.
Arah appointed president-elect
In June, Onyebuchi Arah, PhD, MD, MPH, was appointed president-elect of the Society for Epidemiologic Research. Arah is a professor of epidemiology at the University of California-Los Angeles Fielding School of Public Health and the founding associate dean for global health.
Rebmann wins award
Terri Rebmann, PhD, in June received the President’s Distinguished Service Award from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. Rebmann serves as an advisor to the Saint Louis University’s president on COVID-19 and is a member of the APIC COVID-19 task force.
Gertner wins award
Alex Gertner, PhD, in June received the Outstanding Dissertation Award by AcademyHealth for his research on treating opioid use disorder. Gertner completed a PhD at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and is currently a medical student at the university’s School of Medicine.
Phillips leads AIDS office
In June, Harold Phillips was appointed to lead the White House Office of National AIDS Policy. Phillips previously worked in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy as the senior HIV advisor and CEO of Ending the HIV Epidemic.
Mena appointed director
Leandro Mena, MD, MPH, was appointed as director of the Division of STD Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in June. Mena is the founding chair of the Department of Population Health Science at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he is also a professor. His appointment will begin on Aug. 2.
