  • Most people think of their health in a medical context, never making the connection between their home dwelling and personal well-being. How do you put the importance of healthy homes into terms that really resonate with the general public?
  • The reduction in childhood lead poisoning is often hailed as one of the great public health success stories. Can the same strategies that public health officials used to tackle lead poisoning be used to confront some of today’s leading home-related health hazards?
  • Closing the health disparity gap is an overarching goal — and the driving mission — for many in public health. How important are healthy and safe homes to eliminating overall health disparities, especially among children?
  • The intersection between the public health, land use and transportation planning fields is becoming more and more apparent. Can increasing dialogue and cooperation between the three fields also impact the call to create healthier homes?
  • The “green” building movement is quickly gaining in popularity, emphasizing the importance of lessening our impact on the environment. If the trend continues to grow, how substantially could it positively impact health? And how can public health better incorporate a “go green” message in its healthy homes work?
  • For most people, the main — and sometimes only — health care contact is not a local public health worker or a home-visit medical professional, but a physician they see in a doctor’s office, clinic or hospital. How can these health professionals contribute to the healthy homes dialogue?
  • When it comes to promoting healthier homes, how can public health workers as well as entire health departments serve as role models for their communities? Are there any healthy homes programs now operating that you’d like to highlight?
