Two new APHA titles

APHA Press continued to expand this spring with two new titles joining the lineup. With the third edition of “Confronting Violence: Answering Questions About the Epidemic Destroying America’s Homes and Communities,” author George Gellert offers a comprehensive, straightforward and easy-to-read exploration and treatment of the epidemic of intentional injury and violence in the United States. With the release of “The DeMarco Factor: Transforming Public Will into Political Power,” co-published by APHA and Vanderbilt University Press, author Michael Pertschuk shares the strategies and leadership of veteran community organizer Vincent DeMarco. To purchase the books, visit www.aphabookstore.org or e-mail apha{at}pbd.com.

Online at www.preventioninstitute.org, the primer serves as a Web-based training series for public health practitioners and advocates interested in policy advocacy, community change and multi-sector engagement to achieve health equity.

Homelessness resource

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Homelessness Resource Center in March released a special issue of the Open Health Services and Policy Journal. Palliative care guide

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in April released “Palliative Care: Transforming the Care of Serious Illness.” The fourth volume in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Series, the book provides a broad perspective on the growing field of palliative care and serves as a guide for developing successful approaches to meet the demand. Oral health resource

The Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors and the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center in March released five new resources on the use of professionally applied fluoride varnish by programs serving populations at moderate to high risk for dental caries. Sensory processing disorder resource

“This is Gabriel Making Sense of School,” a new picture book by Hartley Steiner, focuses on helping children with sensory processing disorder find success in school.
