Participants in APHA’s first-ever Summit on Health Reform this November will be greeted by an all-star lineup of public health leaders.
To be held Saturday, Nov. 6, in Denver, the day-long summit will feature local, state and federal public health leaders, as well as experts from the nonprofit sector. The leaders are coming together at the landmark meeting to discuss what health reform will mean to the field of public health and to offer practical information that health professionals can use to implement reform provisions in their agencies and communities.
Headliners at the event will include Howard Koh, MD, MPH, assistant secretary for health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Regina Benjamin, MD, MBA, U.S. surgeon general; Thomas Frieden, MD, MPH, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration.
State and local health leaders will include John Auerbach, MBA, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and Jonathan E. Fielding, MD, MPH, MBA, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, while representatives from the nonprofit sector will include Vincent De Marco of the Maryland Citizen’s Health Initiative.
The summit, which will be held in advance of the 138th APHA Annual Meeting, is designed to equip public health workers with the information they will need to implement the new health reform law, some provisions of which have already taken effect.
