Hogen is RWJF vice president for communications

Charles “Robin” Hogen, formerly director of strategic communications at Yale University, in March was named the vice president of communications for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, N.J.

Fenton new NIAID Division of Extramural Activities director

Matthew J. Fenton, PhD, is the new director of the Division of Extramural Activities for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He formerly served as NIAID's branch chief in the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation.

Ranganathan director of NINDS Office of Translational Research

Rajesh Ranganathan, PhD, in March was named director of the Office of Translational Research at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has four new members

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in March appointed four new members to the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The members are Linda Chezem, JD, of Purdue University; Fulton Crews, PhD, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Mimi Fluery, founder and president of the Community of Concern in North Bethesda, Md.; and Craig McClain, MD, of the University of Louisville and Louisville Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Breast Cancer Research Foundation announces three new members

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in March announced the election of three new members to its board of directors. Tory Burch and Ed Brennan will serve as members, and Larry Norton, MD, will serve as an ex officio member of the nonprofit organization, which is committed to preventing and curing breast cancer.

George Washington University program 2012 Emerging Leader winners

The Geiger Gibson Program in Community Health Policy at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services in March announced the 2012 winners of the distinguished Emerging Leader award. The winners were Angelica Barajas of Sea Mar Community Health Centers in Seattle; Kischa Hampton of Access Community Health Network in Chicago; Katrina Mattison-Chalwe of Piedmont Health Services in Carrboro, N.C.; Vanessa Santarelli of Bi-State Primary Care Association in Bow, N.H.; J. Brett Tracy of Community Health Centers of Arkansas Inc. in North Little Rock, Ark.; and Justin Wheeler of Valley Wide Health Systems in Center, Colo.

NIBIB names three new advisory council members

The National Advisory Council for Biomedical Imaging and Engineering of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering announced three new members in January: John C. Gore, PhD, of Vanderbilt University Medical Center; Cato T. Laurencin, MD, PhD, of the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences; and Mark A. Musen, MD, PhD, of the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research at Stanford University.

Mavilio appointed scientific director of Généthon

Fulvio Mavilio, PhD, an internationally known expert and pioneer in gene therapy for rare diseases, was appointed in January as the scientific director of Généthon. The nonprofit biotherapy lab is funded by the French Muscular Dystrophy Association.
