Herzstein appointed to U.S. Preventive Services Task Force

APHA member Jessica Herzstein, MD, MPH, in February was one of four experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine appointed to serve on the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. Herzstein is the global medical director at Air Products, where she develops, implements and oversees global health programs for 20,000 employees. She also works as an occupational and environmental health consultant and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. With guidance from task force leaders, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality also appointed Linda Ciofu Baumann, PhD, RN; Mark H. Ebell, MD, MS; and Douglas K. Owens, MD, MS. The new members will serve four-year terms.

Wisdom appointed to Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion and Integrative and Public Health

APHA member Kimberlydawn Wisdom, MD, MS, in January was appointed to the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health, which guides the National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council. Wisdom is a senior vice president of community health and equity and chief wellness officer at the Henry Ford Health System. She is also a board-certified emergency medicine physician at the Henry Ford Health System and serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Education at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Lackey retires from CDC

APHA member Cheryl Lackey, MPH, CHES, in January retired from her role as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Communications Services. A member of APHA’s Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section, Lackey has held various leadership roles in health education and communication for more than four decades.

Bolton elected to RWJF board of trustees

Linda Burnes Bolton, DrPH, RN, FAAN, in January was elected to the board of trustees of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. A registered nurse for more than 40 years, she is vice president for nursing, chief nursing officer and director of nursing research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and one of the principal investigators at the Burns and Allen Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai.

Cohen receives vaccine award

Myron Cohen, MD, professor of epidemiology at the University of North Carolina’s Gillings School of Global Public Health, in December received the Gaia Vaccine Foundation’s 2011 Hope is a Vaccine Award. The award is given to individuals for their commitment to the fight against AIDS and for contributions to improving HIV care in marginal populations.

Han named to journal editorial board

Daikwon Han, PhD, assistant professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, in January was appointed to the editorial board of the epidemiology section of the Scientific World Journal. The peer-reviewed open access scientific journal covers a range of subjects in the life sciences and environmental sciences.

Network adds two new members

The National Network of Public Health Institutes in January added two new members. The admission of the Mississippi Public Health Institute and Institute for Public Health at San Diego State University brings the network’s total membership to 38 public health institutes in 28 states plus Washington, D.C. The network’s membership has doubled since its inception in 2001.
