Urban food crisis
“The Apple Pushers” is a documentary from award-winning filmmaker Mary Mazzio that chronicles the stories of street cart vendors who sell fruits and vegetables in the poorer neighborhoods of New York City. Nutrition
Free tools, including posters, logos and graphics and toolkits with talking points and helpful hints, are available for those interested in promoting Meatless Monday in their community. The Meatless Monday campaign is part of the Monday Campaigns, a national movement backed by public health schools that dedicates the first day of every week to health. Proponents of Meatless Monday say cutting meat one day a week can reduce the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease while helping the environment. The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society in March released the first issue of its new Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, published by Oxford University Press. Antiretroviral treatment
Updated “Guidelines for the Use of Antiretroviral Agents in HIV-1-Infected Adults and Adolescents” were released in March by the U.S. Health and Human Services Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents. Some key additions to the new guidelines include a section on HIV and the older patient, a table on the cost of antiretroviral drugs and an expanded discussion of the use of hormonal contraceptives in HIV-infected women.
