  • What is the role of health information technology in improving population health?
  • The new strategic plan is a revision to a plan released in 2011. What were some of the challenges in expanding the health IT landscape when the original plan debuted, and what are some of the barriers to its success?
  • The draft of the plan says that, as of June 2014, more than 400,000 hospitals and health care professionals received federal financial incentives to switch to electronic health record systems. While hospitals had an incentive, the plan notes that there’s still a lag in expanding health IT in areas such as behavioral health and post-acute care. In what ways can this plan reverse this?
  • In what ways do you see the development of health information technology enhancing the quality of patient-centered care at a time where people may need to go to multiple health providers for their care?
  • How has Affordable Care Act reform boosted the development of health information technology? As more uninsured Americans gain insurance, how will it continue to influence it in the future?
  • You have dedicated your life to improving the health of your community. What are your goals as the acting assistant secretary of health?
