Jette named editor of physical therapy journal

APHA member Alan Jette, PhD, MPH, PT, in June was named as the next editor-in-chief of Physical Therapy. Jette, who will begin his new position in January 2016, is director of the New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center and directs the Boston Rehabilitation Outcome Measurement Center. The publication is the American Physical Therapy Association’s scientific journal.

Aschengrau named associate editor of environmental health journal

Ann Aschengrau, ScD, MS, in June was named associate editor of Environmental Health. Aschengrau is a professor of epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health.

Characklis named president of environmental engineering group

Greg Characklis, PhD, in June was named president of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors. Characklis serves as a professor of environmental sciences and engineering at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Hoffman named Oregon school’s vice provost for international programs

Mark Hoffman, PhD, in July was named vice provost for international programs at Oregon State University. Hoffman previously served as associate dean for undergraduate programs at the university’s College of Public Health and Human Sciences.

Johnson elected chair of preventive medicine residency directors

Tisha Johnson, MD, MPH, in July was elected as chair of the Council of Preventive Medicine Residency Directors. Johnson is an assistant professor in the University of Kentucky College of Public Health’s Department of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health.

Salsberry named Ohio school’s associate dean of community outreach, engagement

Pamela Salsberry, PhD, RN, FAAN, in July was named associate dean of Community Outreach and Engagement at Ohio State University’s College of Public Health. Salsberry’s position is a first of its kind for the university, where she previously worked in research and research training via the school’s College of Nursing.

Sports medicine journal set to debut in spring 2016

The BMJ in spring 2016 will add the Journal of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine to its collection of scientific peer-reviewed journals. The journal will feature articles on treatment, diagnosis and other topics as it relates to orthopaedic sports medicine. For more information, visit www.isakos.com.

Viviano named president, CEO of California children’s hospital

Paul Viviano, MPH, MPA, in July was named president and chief executive officer of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Viviano, who began his role in August, previously served as chief executive officer of the University of California-San Diego Health System and the associate vice chancellor for UC San Diego Health Sciences.

New additions to APHA staff

The American Public Health Association has some new faces among its staff. Natasha DeJarnett, PhD, MPH, is APHA’s newest policy analyst for environmental health at APHA’s Center for Public Health Policy. Cassidy White is APHA’s newest component affairs coordinator in the Association’s Membership Services Department. In the Publications Department, Olufunmilayo Makinde serves as an administrative assistant to Alfredo Morabia, MD, PhD, editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Public Health and Abduallahi Abdulgader was hired as a graphic designer.
