Ibrahim named inaugural senior associate dean

APHA member Said Ibrahim, MD, MPH, MBA, in January was appointed as the inaugural senior associate dean for diversity and inclusion at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is the inaugural chief of the Division of Health Care Delivery Science and Innovation in the Department of Healthcare Policy and Research.

Jones wins award

APHA member and past president Camara Jones, MD, PhD, MPH, in October received the Wellesley College Alumnae Association’s Alumnae Achievement Award. She is an adjunct associate professor and senior fellow at the Morehouse School of Medicine.

Erwin named dean

APHA member Paul Campbell Erwin, MD, DrPH, in August assumed his role as dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health. He was previously director of the East Tennessee Regional Health Office for the state Department of Public Health.

Benjamin wins award

APHA Executive Director Georges Benjamin, MD, in December received the Shirley Nathan-Pulliam Health Equity Award at the 15th Annual Maryland Health Equity Conference, where he also delivered the keynote lecture.

Castle named department chair

Nicholas Castle, PhD, MHA, FGSA, in December assumed his role as chair of the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership at the West Virginia University School of Public Health. He was previously a professor of health policy and management at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.

Wen named president

Leana Wen, MD, in November assumed her role as president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She was previously the commissioner of health for the City of Baltimore.

Langevin named director

Helene Langevin, MD, CM, in November assumed her role as director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health at the National Institutes of Health. She was previously director of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Porter named project director

Phylicia Porter, MPH, in September joined the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America as project director. She has worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health and U.S. Army Public Health Command.
