Bunn, Ingram, Vanderpool promoted

Three professors in were promoted at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health in July. APHA member Terry Bunn, PhD, was promoted to full professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health. APHA member Robin Vanderpool, DrPH, was promoted to full professor in the Department of Health Behavior and Society. Richard Ingram was promoted to associate professor with tenure in the Department of Health Management and Policy.

Manteuffel named senior fellow

Brigitte Manteuffel, PhD, in July was named a senior fellow in Mathematica’s Health Unit. Manteuffel is a senior research associate at Georgia Health Policy Center and vice president of ICF International.

Carey elected president

Hannah Carey, PhD, in July was elected president of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. Carey is a professor of comparative biosciences and director of the Biotron Library at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Hayes named director

Darwin Hayes, DDS, MHA, FAGD, in July was named New Jersey’s state dental director. Hayes’ appointment marks the first time in over 30 years that New Jersey has had a dental director.

Farley, Ipp join board of directors

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases in July elected Monica Farley, MD, and re-elected Lisa Ipp, MD, to its board of directors. Farley is a professor and director at Emory University School of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases and a staff physician at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Ipp is an associate attending pediatrician and professor of clinical pediatrics at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and chief of pediatric medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

GWU establishes new department

Scott Evans, MD, MS, in July was named founding chair of a new department at the George Washington University Milken School of Public Health. The Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics will analyze biological research with big data.

Williams named dean

Mark Williams, PhD, in July was appointed dean of the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Williams had previously worked in multiple positions at the Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work at Florida International University.

Salzberg selected as director

Aaon Salzberg, PhD, in July was named the Don and Jennifer Holzworth distinguished professor and director of the Water Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Salzberg previously worked as chief of the Water Division at the U.S. Department of State.

Fasano wins award

Alessio Fasana, MD, was honored in June with the Italian Bilateral Scientific Cooperation Award. Fasano, a professor of nutrition at Harvard University’s Chan School of Public Health and professor of pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital, was recognized for his scientific achievements and engagement in international scientific cooperation.

Fried honored award

Linda Fried, MD, MPH, was awarded the 2019 Alma Dea Morani Renaissance Woman Award by the Woman in Medicine Legacy Foundation. Fried is dean of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and founded the Johns Hopkins Center on Aging and Health.
