Suicide information for teens

Physical activity book

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in May released “Promoting Physical Activity: A Guide for Community Action, Second Edition.” The plan is written for public health practitioners, people working in the parks and recreation, urban planning and transportation sectors and other stakeholders involved in promoting physical activity. Jewish guide on health reform

The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in June distributed “The Impact of Health Insurance Reform on Congregations and Rabbis.” The material is designed to help Reform Judaism congregations understand and fulfill the requirements of the new health insurance reform legislation. Safe injections video

The Safe Injection Practices Coalition in June launched a new educational video targeting health care providers responsible for injections. The video shows how to give injections safely, based on the safe injection practices of the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control. The video is part of the Safe Injection Practices Coalition’s One and Only Campaign. For more information, visit www.oneandonlycampaign.org.

Complementary and alternative medicine sourcebook

Omnigraphics’ Health Reference Series in April released “Complementary and Alternative Medicine Sourcebook, Fourth Edition.” The book provides readers with information on how to select a complementary and alternative medicine practitioner, evaluate information on the Internet and pay for therapies. New caregiver’s guide book

Greenleaf Book Group Press in June published “The Caregiver’s Path to Compassionate Decision Making: Making Choices for Those Who Can’t,” by Viki Kind. The book shows readers how to determine mental capacity, gives decision-making tools and offers techniques for improving communication between patients, families and caregivers, along with other tools. Health care comparison book

Johns Hopkins University Press in June published “Health Care in World Cities,”co-authored by Michael Gusmano, Victor Rodwin and Daniel Weisz. The book compares health care in New York, Paris and London and provides insights into the possible effects of different health care systems on access to health care and the health of populations. Obesity report

The Institute of Medicine in May released “Bridging the Evidence Gap in Obesity Prevention: A Framework to Inform Decision Making.” The report aims to guide the use of evidence in decision making about obesity prevention policies and programs as well as to guide the generation of new and relevant evidence.
