Oral health resources

The National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center in March announced two new resources developed for health professionals, program administrators and policy-makers regarding oral health services for children. “Pain and Suffering Shouldn’t be an Option,” a fact sheet, and “Resource Highlights: Focus on School-Based and School-Liked Services,” can be accessed at www.mchoralhealth.org/PDFs/schoolhealthfactsheet.pdf and www.mchoralhealth.org/highlights/index.html.

Teen health series

Omnigraphics’ Teen Health Series in February released the third edition of “Mental Health Information for Teens.” The updated edition offers new information about maintaining mental wellness and coping with problems during the teen years. For more information, visit www.omnigraphics.com.

Health and social justice book

Clarendon Press of Oxford University in March published “Health and Social Justice.” Authored by Jennifer Prah Ruger, the book addresses societal decisions and actions that impact the distribution of health. For more information, visit www.us.oup.com.

Health care book

Rutgers University Press in January published “Diagnosis, Therapy and Evidence: Conundrums in Modern American Medicine.” Authored by Gerald N. Grob and Allan V. Horowitz, the book examines the differences between the reality of modern American medicine and the weaknesses in diagnosis and treatment. For more information, visit www.rutgerspress.com.

Diabetes website

Food Sciences Corporation in March announced the launch of a new diabetes website — www.diabetescare.net. Serving the entire diabetes community, the site provides breaking news about the latest trends and studies in diabetes and provides a health assessment tool to help website visitors achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Prevention study findings

The National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Prevention of Mental Disorders and Substance Abuse Among Children, Youth and Young Adults in February released a two-year study on preventing mental, emotional and behavioral disorders among young adults. Cardiovascular disorders sourcebook

Omnigraphics’ Health Reference Series in February released the fourth edition of “Cardiovascular Disorders Sourcebook.” The new resource provides updated information about heart and blood disorders, presents statistics and identifies risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Older adult exercise website

The National Institutes of Health announced in March an updated version of its senior health website. The exercise and physical activity section of the site includes sample exercises, easy-to-follow instructions and videos. For more information, visit www.nihseniorhealth.gov.
